Intro

Hello all, welcome to my blog. Choose from the lists of link below you view my world.

Apple's iPhone 3GS

I have just purchased the iPhone upgrade, the iPhone 3GS. I got the 32GB hard drive for more iTunes music, podcast and photos. And, now video is available, officially. I have to say that using the jailbreak’d iPhone 3G was slightly annoying with videos. Now the 3GS has integrated it properly, it’s much easier to use and well organised.

The compass is an additional piece of tech. It’s handy but not the most creative of ideas for the iPhone.

The future is Mac

Finally succumbed to the Mac. In contrast to my dark PC, my new Apple iMac is white and metallic. Very pretty. I wonder how it will change my life?

ICY BOX 2.5in Portable Hard Disk Drive Caddy

This hard drive caddy from Icy Box is really useful piece of kit for anyone using laptop computers. I recently experienced a laptop failing to boot up and managed to use this caddy to access my files using another comuter.
It’s powered by USB2 and needs no main adaptor. It also comes with it’s own protective pouch.

Topfield TF5810PVRt Freeview+

This PVR basically uses Freeview terrestial signal to records your favourites channels and programmes. One signal feeds two tuners and allows you to watch one channels while recording another. Or, simply record two channels.

This is the 500GB model but there is also a 250GB model without HDMI Upscaling. The EPG isn’t too bad. It hasn’t been incorrect yet anyway. The picture quality is really good and the in-programme ‘skip and jump’ options are very useful. Although it doesn’t remember where you were if you STOP the programme for any reason.

One of the reasons for getting this model was the USB port, which allows you to store recorded programmes onto your computer to watch later. It all sounds a good idea but the copying process takes forever and I end up cancelling the process. The programme labelling is sometimes very irritating. With movies and one-offs it’s fine. But, I have a young son and recording Thomas and the Tank Engine everyday causing some problems for me. The first recording is fine ‘THOMAS’ and second saves as ‘THOMAS-2′ then ‘THOMAS-3′. No problem there, but try filing them into a folder of there own and the labelling resets itself. This creates duplicated file names and means you wont be able to save them in their own folder without overwriting the previous recordings. So I’m having to hook up the PVR to the PC and rename them using a keyboard. I could rename them using the remote but this takes forever.

To be honest, I really like it. It has it’s issues but then what gadget doesn’t. It’s saving me £50 a month by not paying for SkyTV.

BMW finally on the drive

Yes, my ‘new’ car has finally been sorted out and today I picked it up with Sarah and James. I drove it home and Sarah drove it too. It’s absolutely great. Along with a 6-speed Sports gearbox there’s a tiptronic option too, so I can choose my gear changes. It’s got electronic seat adjustments and cruise control, bluetooth, leather, parking assist (for Sarah obviously) coz I park perfectly every time. I like the paint colour too, Carbon Black but it is more like a midnight blue.

James seems to approve too. He has a centre armrest which he finds very amusing. He is also happy with the acceleration and finds it hilarious whenever I ‘floor it’. What fun.
